Stan’s name is synonymous with Irvine Folk Club and Marymass Folk Festival. He arrived in 1965 with his wife Jean and their four daughters to take up a job as Youth Service Organiser for Irvine District. That was the same year that an Interim Plan for Irvine New Town was put in place. Stan was the right man, in the right place and at the right time.
Affectionately known as ‘Stan the man’ or ‘Sir Stanley’, he is remembered for his mischievous sense of fun, his sense of community and an ability to persuade or cajole people to get involved. Stan the man.
